Since opening its doors in 2002, Manhattan Children’s Theatre has produced 22 theatrical productions geared to children and families within the NYC community and beyond. These productions are a mix of adaptations of both classical and contemporary literature including: Rudyard Kipling’s Rikki Tikki Tavi, Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen, Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, William Steig’s Brave Irene and Edith Nesbit’s Last of the Dragons among others. These Main-Stage productions run on Saturdays and Sundays at 12:00 and 2:00pm from September through May as well as during the week for area school and youth groups.

MCT also offers acting classes for children ages 3-12. Storytellers (Pre-School-Pre-K) takes familiar stories and brings them to life using music, movement and games. Creative Drama (Grades 1-2) incorporates pantomime, sounds and simple plays in an environment where children are encouraged to use their imaginations and work as a team. Beginning Acting (Grades 3-5) teaches the basics of acting including projection, body control and characterization using short scenes, monologues and improvisation.
Little Tales, launched in February 2006, is a theatrical series based on folk tales from around the world. These tales are directly geared toward the pre-school age audience and incorporate puppetry, masks, live action and plenty of audience participation. Little Tales performances run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the week at both 11am and 2pm.

MCT’s productions use professional adult actors and designers for each of its shows. It employs approximately 15-20 artists per production from actors, to set designers to illustrators and graphic designers. MCT has one full time salaried employee (Artistic Director) and 2 part time salaried employees (Managing Director and Production Supervisor)

After producing its first three seasons on a fourth-floor walk-up loft space, with a seating capacity of 64, Manhattan Children’s Theatre took a major step for its fourth and current season by building a 74 seat theater (with a potential to go up to 99 seats) on the FIRST FLOOR at 52 White Street in Tribeca. This space not only holds additional audience members, but is also large enough for us to have a separate building shop, giving us the opportunity of producing an extra 4 weekends per year, ultimately providing additional revenue.
